  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar

  • 4 cups (960ml) whole milk, warmed
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg, for sprinkling

Directions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Place six custard cups in a deep baking dish and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Custard Mixture:
    In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and salt until well combined. Gradually add the warmed milk while whisking continuously. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Fill the Custard Cups:
    Divide the custard mixture evenly among the prepared cups. Sprinkle a pinch of ground nutmeg over the top of each.
  4. Create a Water Bath:
    Pour hot water into the baking dish, surrounding the custard cups, until the water reaches about halfway up the sides of the cups.
  5. Bake the Custard:
    Carefully transfer the baking dish to the oven. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the custard is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve:
    Remove the custard cups from the water bath and allow them to cool. Serve warm or refrigerate for a chilled dessert.
