Preparation Steps
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla.
Heat the milk in a saucepan until just warm, then gradually whisk into the egg mixture.
Pour custard into a 1.5-quart baking dish, place the dish in a larger pan, and pour hot water around it to a depth of about 1 inch.
Bake for 35 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
Notes
For a touch of spice, sprinkle ground cinnamon or nutmeg on top before serving.
