Amish Baked Custard

  • 2 cups milk Whole milk recommended
  • 3 pieces eggs Large
  • 0.5 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla.
  • Heat the milk in a saucepan until just warm, then gradually whisk into the egg mixture.
  • Pour custard into a 1.5-quart baking dish, place the dish in a larger pan, and pour hot water around it to a depth of about 1 inch.
  • Bake for 35 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

Notes

For a touch of spice, sprinkle ground cinnamon or nutmeg on top before serving.
