Preparation Steps
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
Melt butter in the cake pan. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the melted butter.
Arrange apple slices in a decorative pattern over the brown sugar.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, beat together milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Pour batter over the apple slices in the cake pan.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate. Serve warm.
