Preparation Steps
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or baking spray.
In a large bowl, combine sweet potatoes, melted butter, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and pumpkin pie spice. Blend with an electric mixer until mostly smooth.
Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into the prepared dish. Sprinkle the dry cake mix on top, covering completely without mixing.
Top with cubed butter and sprinkle chopped pecans evenly.
Bake for 50 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 30 minutes before serving with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
