Spicy Shrimp Linguine with Basil Cream Sauce

  • 1 pound large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound linguine pasta
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves chopped
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper to taste

Preparation Steps

  • Season the shrimp with red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add shrimp and cook until pink, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • Meanwhile, cook linguine in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain.
  • In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Pour in heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Stir in chopped basil and Parmesan cheese.
  • Stir the cooked pasta into the sauce, adding reserved pasta water as needed to achieve desired consistency. Add shrimp and toss to combine.
  • Serve immediately, garnished with extra Parmesan and fresh basil if desired.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add extra red pepper flakes before serving.
