Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices ham
  • 1 10.5 oz / 0.65 lb can cream of chicken soup (or homemade)
  • ½ cup 0.12 L milk
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup 0.25 lb seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons 0.03 lb melted butter

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

  • Season each chicken breast with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Lay a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast, then roll up the chicken, securing with toothpicks if needed.

Step 2: Mix the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, milk, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth.

Step 3: Assemble in the Slow Cooker

  • Pour a small amount of the sauce on the bottom of the slow cooker to prevent sticking.
  • Place the rolled chicken breasts in the slow cooker in a single layer. Pour the remaining sauce over the chicken, ensuring each piece is covered.

Step 4: Add the Breadcrumb Topping

  • In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with the melted butter. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the chicken in the slow cooker.

Step 5: Cook the Chicken

  • Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  • Remove the toothpicks, if used, and serve the chicken cordon bleu with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • Storage: Store leftover chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Freezer-Friendly: Freeze individual portions in airtight containers for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
  • Make it Lighter: Use low-fat cheese and a homemade light cream sauce instead of canned soup for a healthier option.
  • Serving Tip: Serve with a side of green beans or a crisp salad to balance the creamy, savory flavors of the dish.
