- 1 ½ lbs 0.68 kg potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 2 cups 0.5 lb green cabbage, finely shredded
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons 0.04 lb unsalted butter, divided
- ½ cup 0.12 lb grated cheddar cheese (or your favorite melting cheese)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Step 1: Boil the Potatoes
Step 2: Cook the Cabbage and Onions
In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
Add the shredded cabbage and chopped onion, and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened but not browned. Set aside.
Step 3: Mash the Potatoes and Combine
In the same pot used for boiling, mash the potatoes with the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter until smooth.
Fold in the cooked cabbage and onion mixture. Season generously with salt and black pepper to taste.
