Creamy, cheesy scalloped potatoes, perfect as a side dish or a comforting main course.

  • 2.5 lb Russet Potatoes Peeled and thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cup Yellow Onion Thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 0.25 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 3 cup Milk
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black Pepper

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour until smooth. Gradually whisk in milk until thickened.
  • Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper.
  • Layer potatoes and onions in the prepared baking dish, pouring cheese sauce over each layer.
  • Bake for 60 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use heavy cream instead of milk.
