Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a large casserole dish with butter.
Cook the penne pasta according to the package instructions for al dente. Drain well and set aside.
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and sauté until golden and tender.
