Pecan Turtle Bars

Rich and decadent pecan turtle bars with a buttery shortbread crust, a layer of creamy caramel, and pecans drizzled with chocolate.

Ingredients
  

Crust Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup cold unsalted butter cut into cubes

Caramel Layer Ingredients

  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup pecans chopped

Chocolate Drizzle Ingredients

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Combine flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Press mixture into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  • Meanwhile, make the caramel: Combine brown sugar, heavy cream, and butter in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, or until thickened. Stir in pecans.
  • Pour caramel over the baked crust.
  • Bake for another 10-12 minutes, or until caramel is set.
  • Melt chocolate chips and drizzle over the caramel layer.
  • Let cool completely before cutting into bars.

Notes

Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
