Mama’s Classic Cornbread Dressing – A Southern Comfort Favorite

This traditional Southern cornbread dressing includes a mix of cornbread, biscuits, and an array of spices to create a comforting side dish perfect for holiday gatherings.

  • 4 cups crumbled cornbread day-old or toasted
  • 2 cups crumbled biscuits fresh or day-old
  • 1 cup chopped celery about 2 stalks
  • 1 cup chopped onion about 1 medium onion
  • 1.5 teaspoons dried sage adjust to taste
  • 2 cups chicken broth low sodium if preferred
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 2 eggs beaten

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the cornbread and biscuit crumbs.
  • Add the chopped celery and onions. Mix to distribute evenly.
  • Sprinkle in the dried sage and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  • Pour the chicken broth over the mixture and stir until combined.
  • Stir in the melted butter and beaten eggs until everything is moistened.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and bake for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

Notes

This dressing pairs beautifully with roast turkey or chicken.
