Mama’s Classic Cornbread Dressing – A Southern Comfort Favorite

This classic Southern cornbread dressing is a delightful side dish perfect for any holiday table, combining moist cornbread with aromatic herbs and spices.

  • 3.5 cups cornbread, crumbled day-old if possible
  • 1.5 cups chicken broth or as needed
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup onion, chopped yellow or white
  • 2 tbsp butter unsalted
  • 2 tsp poultry seasoning to taste

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and celery, and sauté until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine the crumbled cornbread, cooked vegetables, and poultry seasoning. Gradually pour in the chicken broth and mix until everything is well combined and moist.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use stock you made from the turkey.
