Mama’s Classic Cornbread Dressing – A Southern Comfort Favorite

This classic Southern-style cornbread dressing is a perfect side dish for the holiday season or any occasion. Rich and savory, it's a comforting favorite that will please the whole family.

  • 4 cups cornbread, crumbled preferably a day old
  • 2 tablespoons butter for cooking
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup onion, chopped

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped celery and onion, and sauté until soft.
  • In a large bowl, combine crumbled cornbread, cooked celery and onion. Add broth little by little, stirring gently until moist but not soggy.
  • Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and bake for 30-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add cooked and crumbled sausage before baking.
