Mama’s Classic Cornbread Dressing – A Southern Comfort Favorite

This classic Southern cornbread dressing is a holiday favorite, bursting with savory flavors of cornbread, sausage, and a hint of sage.

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups cornbread, crumbled use homemade or store-bought
  • 1 lb sausage mild or spicy
  • 1 cup chicken broth can substitute with vegetable broth
  • 0.5 cup celery, chopped
  • 0.5 cup onion, diced
  • 1 tbsp sage freshly chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter melted

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, sauté the celery and onion until soft.
  • In a large bowl, combine the crumbled cornbread, cooked sausage, sautéed vegetables, chicken broth, sage, and melted butter. Mix well.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in chopped pecans or dried cranberries.
