Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound fettuccine cooked to al dente
  • 60 ounces tomato-basil pasta sauce about 2 jars
  • 1 pound ground turkey lean
  • 1 pound Italian sausage mild
  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper diced
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 16 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 3 cups grated Parmesan cheese divided
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 0.5 cup fresh basil chopped, for garnish

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Prepare the white sauce: Heat 12 tablespoons of butter over medium heat and add 3 minced garlic cloves. Cook for a minute, then pour in the whole milk. Simmer until thickened. Stir in 2 cups Parmesan and cream cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Cook the fettuccine following package instructions until al dente; reserve 1 cup of pasta water. Toss cooked pasta with the white sauce until evenly coated. Use pasta water to adjust sauce thickness if needed.
  • In the same large skillet, melt remaining butter. Add turkey and sausage and cook, breaking up the meat. Add onion, bell pepper, and remaining garlic, cooking until the vegetables are soft.
  • Stir tomato-basil sauce into the meat mixture along with Italian seasoning. Let simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally for flavor integration.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish. Layer fettuccine in the dish and pour the meat sauce over it.
  • Mix cheddar, Swiss, Monterey Jack, and remaining Parmesan. Sprinkle over the dish evenly.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until the cheese is golden and bubbly. Broil for an additional 2 minutes if desired. Let rest before serving, garnishing with chopped basil.

Notes

To add a spicy kick, incorporate some red pepper flakes into the sauce. Feel free to use alternative pasta shapes or vary the cheese types to suit your taste.
