  • 4.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons apple pie spice found in most grocery stores
  • 1.5 cups chopped apples peeled and cored
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 3 sticks cold unsalted butter cut into cubes
  • 1.5 cups whole buttermilk chilled
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar to sprinkle on top

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, apple pie spice, and brown sugar.
  • Add the cubed butter and cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Fold in the chopped apples and pour in the buttermilk and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently press into a rectangle. Cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter.
  • Place biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

Notes

The biscuits are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
