How to Make a Savory Beef and Potato Bake

  • 5 lbs golden potatoes peeled and sliced thinly
  • 1 lb ground turkey lean
  • 1 large Vidalia onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 15 oz cream of mushroom soup canned
  • 1.5 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper freshly ground

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground turkey until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared dish. Top with half of the turkey mixture, and sprinkle with 1 cup of cheddar cheese.
  • Repeat the layers with remaining potatoes, turkey mixture, and cheese.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes. Remove foil, then bake for another 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and potatoes are tender.

Notes

Ensure potatoes are thinly sliced to allow even cooking. Use various cheeses to customize flavor profiles. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days for easy reheating.
