  • 1 medium red onion finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 cups low-fat milk or whole milk for richer flavor
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup 10.5 ounces
  • 10 ounces cheddar cheese grated
  • 1.5 pounds turkey breast cooked and shredded
  • 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper or to taste
  • 1 pound penne pasta
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese grated
  • 0.5 cup basil fresh, chopped for garnish

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add the red onion and sauté for 5 minutes until translucent. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • Pour in the milk and cream of mushroom soup. Stir in cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper. Cook until the cheese is melted and the sauce is thickened.
  • Add the cooked turkey and cooked pasta to the sauce, mixing well to ensure everything is coated evenly.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with grated parmesan cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil, and serve hot.

Notes

For a burst of color, consider adding diced bell peppers or spinach to the dish before baking. Experiment with different cheeses for unique flavors.
