Whip up your own batch of delicious homemade taco seasoning. It's incredibly easy to make and far surpasses store-bought versions in flavor. Perfect for seasoning ground beef, chicken, or vegetables for your favorite tacos, burritos, or fajitas!

  • 4 tablespoons chili powder New Mexico Red Chili Powder recommended
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to taste for desired heat
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper

Preparation Steps

  • In a small bowl, combine all the chili powder, red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, dried oregano, smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
  • Stir well until all the spices are thoroughly mixed and evenly distributed. Ensure there are no clumps and the blend is uniform.
  • Transfer the homemade taco spice blend to an airtight container, such as a glass jar, and store in a cool, dark place like your spice cabinet. It will stay fresh for up to 6 months.

Notes

This homemade taco spice blend is perfect for seasoning ground beef, chicken, turkey, or even lentils for vegetarian tacos. For a milder flavor, reduce or omit the cayenne pepper. For an extra kick, feel free to add a pinch more!
