Homemade Mac and Cheese

  • 0.5 pound Elbow Macaroni
  • 0.5 cup Butter
  • 0.5 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 3 cups Milk Whole milk recommended
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded Monterey Jack Cheese
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black Pepper

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.

  • In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute, whisking constantly.

  • Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened.

  • Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, salt, and pepper until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth.

  • Add cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to combine.
  • Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

For an extra cheesy flavor, you can add a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese on top before baking. Serve hot!
