Homemade Apple Fritters with Cinnamon Glaze

Make homemade apple fritters with diced Fuji apples, warm spices, and a thin cinnamon-vanilla glaze for a crisp, tender fall dessert.

  • 3 to 4 cups canola oil for frying
  • 3 cups Fuji apples peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg egg lightly beaten
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract for batter
  • 2 cups confectioners sugar for glaze
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons milk or water for glaze
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract for glaze
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon for glaze

  • Heat the canola oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
  • Mix the diced apples and lemon juice in a large bowl and set aside.
  • Whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
  • Make a well, add the milk, egg, melted butter, and batter vanilla, and mix just until combined.
  • Gently fold in the apples until mostly coated.
  • When the oil reaches 375°F (190°C), measure 1/4 cup batter for each fritter.
  • Transfer batter to a greased metal spatula and flatten into a medium disc.
  • Lower the spatula into the oil, releasing the batter; fry only 3 to 4 fritters at a time.
  • Cook 2 minutes per side until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
  • Whisk confectioners sugar, milk or water, glaze vanilla, and cinnamon into a thin glaze.
  • Dip slightly cooled fritters in the glaze, repeating or drizzling with any extra.
