  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks
  • 0.5 cup caramel sauce homemade or store-bought
  • 0.5 cup chopped pecans toasted

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
  • Fold in the flour until fully incorporated, then spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  • Pour the caramel sauce over the batter, then sprinkle with chocolate chunks and chopped pecans.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the edges are golden and the center is set.
  • Cool completely before cutting into bars.

Notes

To make the bars even more indulgent, consider drizzling melted chocolate over the top before serving. For a salted caramel version, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the caramel layer before baking.
