Greek honey cake

A rich and aromatic Greek honey cake, perfect for dessert or a special occasion.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup honey
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and cloves. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, honey, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the orange juice and orange zest.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

This cake is delicious on its own, or you can serve it with a drizzle of extra honey and a dollop of Greek yogurt.
