Fried Apples: Southern-Style Skillet Apples

Ingredients
- 6 apples peeled, cored, and sliced
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup white sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar packed
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 pinch nutmeg
- 1 pinch salt
- 6 scoops vanilla ice cream for serving
Instructions
Peel, core, and slice the apples into even pieces.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the apples, cover, and cook over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring often, until tender.
Mix the white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
Add the sugar mixture to the apples and cook for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring, until dissolved and syrupy.
Serve warm over ice cream or as a side dish.
