Creamy, rich, and savory French Onion Dip made with caramelized onions, sour cream, and a hint of seasoning. Perfect for parties, game day, or snacking with chips and veggies.
0.5cupgrated Gruyère cheeseoptional, for garnish or mix-in
Instructions
Preparation Steps
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and stir to coat with butter.
Cook the onions slowly, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown and caramelized, about 45 to 60 minutes. Add a splash of water if they start to stick.
Halfway through cooking, stir in the sugar and salt to enhance caramelization and soften the onions.
Remove the caramelized onions from heat and let them cool completely.
In a medium bowl, mix together sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and celery salt.
Fold in the cooled onions and mix well. If desired, stir in grated Gruyère cheese for extra richness.
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
Serve chilled with potato chips, baguette slices, or fresh vegetables.
Notes
For best results, make this dip at least 4 hours ahead or overnight. It tastes even better the next day!
