  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk at room temperature
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.25 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 pieces large eggs at room temperature

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing them and lining the bottoms with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together using an electric mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Fold in the dark chocolate chips gently.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. Let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before turning them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a glossy finish, you can glaze the cake with a ganache made from melted dark chocolate and cream.
