  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter plus more for greasing pan
  • 4 large Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, and sliced into wedges
  • 16 ounces refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 0.75 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch kosher salt
  • 8 ounces lemon-lime soda like Sprite or 7-Up
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg optional
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream for serving

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a 13x9 inch baking dish generously.
  • Peel, core, and cut each apple into wedges. Roll each apple slice in a crescent dough triangle and place in the baking dish.
  • Melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg to create a caramel sauce.
  • Pour caramel sauce over dumplings and add soda around the edges of the pan.
  • Bake for 30 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  • Cool slightly before serving with vanilla ice cream and extra sauce drizzled on top.

Notes

Try adding chopped nuts to the caramel sauce for extra flavor. Keep leftovers in the fridge and reheat gently before serving.
