Classic Peach Cobbler

For the Peaches

  • 6 pounds peaches peeled, pitted, and sliced
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Cobbler Topping

  • 1.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches, 0.75 cup granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the peaches evenly.

  • Pour the peach mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a separate medium bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups flour, 1 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt for the topping.

  • Add the milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  • Spoon the topping evenly over the peach mixture in the baking dish.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.
  • Let the cobbler cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. Serve warm, with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For an even richer flavor, you can add a pinch of cardamom to the peach mixture.
