Classic Butter Cookies

Deliciously tender and buttery shortbread-style cookies, perfect for any occasion.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg yolk and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  • Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 tablespoon each) and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Gently flatten each ball with the bottom of a fork or your thumb to form a cookie.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
