Ingredients
- 6 cups diced apples 4-5 large Honeycrisp apples, unpeeled
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar for the apple layer
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon for the apple layer
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour for the apple layer
- 1/2 cup salted butter melted, 1 stick
- 1 cup brown sugar lightly packed
- 1 cup all-purpose flour for the topping
- 3/4 cup rolled oats old-fashioned oats
- 1 teaspoon vanilla for the topping
- 1/4 teaspoon salt for the topping
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Toss diced apples with the sugar, cinnamon, and flour in a large bowl until well-coated. Transfer to a 9×9 baking dish or a cast-iron skillet.
Mix melted butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, vanilla, and salt in a large bowl. Stir together with a spoon or fork. If needed, use your hands to bring the mixture together into a crumble; distribute evenly over the apples in the pan.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, until the apples are jammy-looking around the edges, and the topping is golden brown.
Let stand for 10-15 minutes, so the apple layer can cool and thicken slightly. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
