A hearty and flavorful Hungarian chicken paprikash recipe. This dish features tender chicken simmered in a rich paprika sauce with onions, peppers, and tomatoes.

  • 1.5 lbs Bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1 large Onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper Bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Caraway seeds
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 1 cup Diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Sour cream Optional, for serving

Preparation Steps

  • Season chicken thighs with salt and pepper.
  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown chicken thighs over medium-high heat.
  • Add onion and bell pepper; cook until softened.
  • Stir in paprika and caraway seeds; cook for 1 minute.
  • Add chicken broth, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cover. Cook for 30-40 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through.
  • Serve hot, topped with sour cream (optional).

Notes

For a richer flavor, use bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs. You can also add other vegetables, such as carrots or potatoes.
