Chicken Gyros

A flavorful and authentic Greek-style chicken gyros with seasoned grilled chicken, fresh vegetables, and creamy tzatziki sauce wrapped in warm pita bread.

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into strips
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 pita bread rounds
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • 0.5 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cup tzatziki sauce
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges (optional)

Preparation Steps

  • In a small bowl, combine cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Rub the spice mixture evenly over the chicken strips.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken and cook for 6–8 minutes, turning occasionally, until fully cooked and slightly charred. Remove from heat and let rest.
  • Warm the pita bread rounds in a dry skillet or oven until soft and pliable.
  • Assemble gyros by placing a portion of chicken on each pita, followed by lettuce, tomato slices, and red onion. Drizzle with tzatziki sauce and serve with lemon wedges if desired.

Notes

Serve immediately for best texture and flavor. Great as a quick lunch or dinner option.
