Chicken Flautas

Crispy, rolled tortillas filled with seasoned chicken and cheese, perfect for appetizers or a main dish.

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cooked and shredded
  • 1 cup Mexican blend cheese, shredded (or cheddar)
  • 8 tortilla small flour tortillas (6-inch)
  • 0.25 cup taco seasoning
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil

Preparation Steps

  • In a bowl, combine shredded chicken, taco seasoning, and water. Mix well and let sit for 5 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the seasoned chicken mixture and cook for 5–7 minutes until heated through. Remove from heat and stir in half of the shredded cheese.
  • Warm tortillas slightly (in a dry skillet or microwave) to make them pliable. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the chicken-cheese mixture onto each tortilla, leaving space at the ends.
  • Roll each tortilla tightly into a cylinder, tucking in the sides as you roll. Secure with toothpicks if needed.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Fry flautas in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  • Serve warm with optional toppings such as sour cream, salsa, or guacamole.
