  • 3 pounds Russet potatoes Peeled and sliced thinly
  • 2 cups Milk Whole milk recommended
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese Shredded
  • 1 teaspoon Salt To taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper Freshly ground
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, add minced garlic, and cook until fragrant.
  • Whisk in the milk, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes.
  • Layer sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Pour the sauce over the potatoes and sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 60-70 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.

Notes

Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving for easier slicing.
