  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 0.75 cup cold butter cubed
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 0.25 cup fresh chives chopped

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and black pepper.
  • Cut in the butter using a pastry blender or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the cheddar cheese and chives, then add the buttermilk and mix until just combined.
  • Drop 1/4 cup portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the biscuits are cooked through.
  • Allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
