Cabbage beef bake

A hearty and flavorful bake combining tender beef with shredded cabbage, all baked together in a delicious sauce. Perfect for a comforting weeknight meal.

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 large cabbage finely shredded
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.5 cup beef broth
  • 0.25 cup tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the shredded cabbage, beef broth, tomato paste, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the cabbage is slightly softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Transfer the mixture to a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned and bubbly.
  • Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

This cabbage beef bake is delicious served on its own or with a side of mashed potatoes.
