Instructions
Preparation Steps
In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Pour in the beer and bring to a simmer. Add the bratwurst sausages to the pot.
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the bratwurst are cooked through.
Remove the bratwurst from the pot and grill or pan-fry them until browned on all sides.
Serve the beer brats on hot dog buns with mustard, if desired.
