  • 6 bratwurst Bratwurst sausages Fresh or pre-cooked
  • 12 ounce Beer Lager or pilsner
  • 1 medium Yellow onion Sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Optional, for serving
  • 6 rolls Hot dog buns Optional, for serving

Preparation Steps

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Pour in the beer and bring to a simmer. Add the bratwurst sausages to the pot.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the bratwurst are cooked through.
  • Remove the bratwurst from the pot and grill or pan-fry them until browned on all sides.
  • Serve the beer brats on hot dog buns with mustard, if desired.
