Baked Chicken Parmesan

This Baked Chicken Parmesan is a healthier twist on the classic Italian favorite. Crispy, golden chicken breasts are baked to perfection, topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese, creating a comforting and delicious meal. It's an easy-to-make dish that's perfect for family dinners and guests alike.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs preferably panko for extra crunch
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil for garnish optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a shallow bowl, combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Place the flour in another shallow bowl and beat the eggs in a third bowl.
  • Dredge each chicken breast first in the flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally coat in the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Place the breaded chicken breasts on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C) and the breadcrumbs are golden and crispy.
  • Remove the chicken from the oven, spoon marinara sauce over each piece, and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • Return the chicken to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil, if desired.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can use a smaller amount of cheese or opt for part-skim mozzarella.
  • Serve with pasta or a side salad for a complete meal.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
