  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups diced apples peeled and cored

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  • Stir in the applesauce and vanilla extract into the butter mixture. Gradually add the flour mixture, stirring until just blended.
  • Fold in the diced apples. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Notes

For an extra touch, top the cooled cake with a cream cheese frosting or a dusting of powdered sugar.
