  • 16 oz pizza dough divided into 4 portions
  • 2.5 cups cooked chicken shredded, preferably smoked or grilled
  • 1.5 cups cheddar cheese sharp, shredded
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce your favorite brand
  • 1 cup red onion sliced thin
  • 0.5 cup bell pepper diced, any color

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your air fryer to 370°F (190°C).
  • On a floured surface, stretch or roll each piece of dough into a 7-inch circle.
  • Spoon 2 tablespoons of barbecue sauce onto each dough circle, spreading evenly but leaving a 1-inch border.
  • Layer evenly with shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, red onion, and bell pepper.
  • Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Seal the edges tightly with a fork.
  • Trim excess dough if necessary to prevent overcrowding the air fryer basket.
  • Air fry calzones in batches for 10-12 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before cutting and serving.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add a few jalapeño slices inside the calzones. Pair with extra barbecue sauce or ranch for dipping. For the best results, ensure ingredients are spread evenly to avoid overfilling and bursting.
