Crispy Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) milk
  • 2 cups (120g) seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 1 qt (950ml) vegetable oil, for frying

Directions

  1. Prepare the Mozzarella Sticks:
    Cut each string cheese stick in half to create smaller portions. Place the pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 1 hour (this prevents the cheese from melting too quickly while frying).
  2. Set Up the Breading Station:
    In one shallow bowl, add the flour. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk. In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  3. Bread the Mozzarella Sticks:
    Coat each frozen cheese stick in flour, shaking off the excess. Dip it into the egg mixture, then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated. Repeat the process (egg and breadcrumbs) to ensure a thick coating. Place the breaded sticks back onto the baking sheet and freeze for another 30 minutes.
  4. Fry the Mozzarella Sticks:
    Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C). Fry a few mozzarella sticks at a time for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  5. Serve:
    Serve hot with marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
