Ingredients

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 6 cups (about 300g) cubed bread (day-old works best)

For the Topping:

  • ½ cup (60g) shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted (optional)

Directions

  1. Prepare the Sausage:
    In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until fully browned and crumbled. Drain any excess grease and set aside to cool.
  2. Prepare the Casserole:
    In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and fresh parsley. Add the cooked sausage and cubed bread to the egg mixture and gently stir to combine, ensuring the bread is soaked.
  3. Assemble the Casserole:
    Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top.
  4. Chill Overnight (Optional):
    For the best results, cover the casserole with plastic wrap and refrigerate it overnight, allowing the flavors to meld and the bread to soak up the egg mixture. If you’re short on time, you can skip this step and bake it immediately.
  5. Bake the Casserole:
