Slow-cooked to perfection, the brisket is infused with a savory and tangy sauce that enhances its natural richness. With minimal prep and maximum flavor, this recipe is a guaranteed hit for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 lbs (1.4-1.8 kg) beef brisket
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup (240ml) beef broth
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

Directions

  1. Season the Brisket:
    • Combine the salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder in a small bowl. Rub this mixture all over the brisket.
  2. Sear the Brisket (Optional but Recommended):
    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on both sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  3. Prepare the Crockpot:
    • Place the sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of the crockpot.
  4. Mix the Sauce:
    • In a bowl, whisk together the beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard. Pour the mixture over the onions in the crockpot.
  5. Cook the Brisket:
    • Place the brisket on top of the onions and sauce. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-5 hours, until the brisket is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
  6. Rest and Serve:
    • Remove the brisket from the crockpot and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing against the grain. Serve with the sauce from the crockpot spooned over the top.

Notes

  • Make It Smokier: Add a teaspoon of liquid smoke to the sauce for an authentic barbecue flavor.
  • Thicken the Sauce: Transfer the sauce to a saucepan and simmer for a few minutes to reduce it, or add a cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water) to thicken.
  • Serving Suggestions: Pair with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or crusty bread for a hearty meal.
  • Storage: Leftover brisket can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Reheating Tip: Reheat gently in the oven at 325°F (165°C) covered with foil, or in a skillet with a splash of the sauce to keep it moist.

This Crockpot Brisket is a true comfort food classic—effortless to make and always a crowd-pleaser!
