Ingredients

  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ cup (100g) sugar (for cinnamon-sugar topping)
  • 1½ tsp ground cinnamon (for cinnamon-sugar topping)

Directions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat until well combined.
  3. Add Wet and Dry Ingredients: Stir in the buttermilk. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Prepare Cinnamon-Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, mix together ½ cup of sugar and 1½ tsp cinnamon.
  5. Layer and Swirl: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top, then sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Use a knife to gently swirl the cinnamon-sugar into the batter, creating a marbled effect.
  6. Bake: Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Serve: Slice and enjoy this sweet, cinnamon-swirled bread warm or at room temperature. It’s perfect on its own or with a spread of butter.
